Bakton Enterprises were the original designer and manufacturer of the original Tuf-Neck stem. Superbyke which, in addition to its own products, purchased Tuf-Neck stems from Bakton Enterprises and marketed and distributed them.

Three versions were released in 1977 and the final version continued on through 1978 and 1979.

First Version (January 1977)

The first version was simple it had the quill shaft pressed into the aluminium block and relied only on the wedge bolt to keep everything together.

Second Version (mid 1977)

The second version had a hole drilled into the back of the aluminium block that would protrude into the shaft and pin the stem to the shaft.
The second version of the Superbyke Tuf-Neck Plain Square Corner Stem. The stem cap is not original.

Third Version (late 1977 to late 1979)

The third and final version had the shaft is pressed into the aluminium block and a hollow bolt secures the aluminium block and shaft together as one. The wedge bolt uses the top surface of the hollow shaft bolt to torque against instead of the aluminium block.
